Frasier, among other things

I don't watch much tv, but when I do, I like to watch something good. Which brings me to a show that I think is hilarious.
You can guess by now that it's "Frasier" it's so funny, I love it because the main actor Kelsey Grammar (or whatever you spell it like) plays a hilarious and uptight Doctor. It's the uptight funny thing which goes together that goes so well.
Another one of those shows is "That 70's show" which I wish I could watch more of also, Fez is a laugh, by now you can tell, I like comedy, because i'm not really an over serious person all the time and need to laugh, it's my medicine :)
Also there have been some great blogs to read, all people in my links list are great bloggers, I read all of them and they are there because I think they are the best.
Jonathan has posted on some great British comedy, I like that too, he has good taste....of course :)
Santa has reminded me how much I miss the beach, I love the beach, so many years ago my friends and I used to hang out there (teenage days) and had some great times, every new years eve there would be a huge beach party, and you could count on it, I would be there!
Patrick has reminded me of those "choose your own adventure" books, I soooo forgot about those, and I loved them! You would think if I really loved them I would not have forgotten them.
I would read them over until I found all the possible outcomes, so they were a bit of fun for those days, just as well because I won a prize for finnishing off a romance short story that was started by a writer and then some magazine made a "finnish the story" competition. Ok it was romance and I don't read those, but the ending was very dramatic. (I didnt win money, boo hoo)
Lastly I want to add, isnt this mouse the cutest thing ever? I love the way mice are, how cute!
And that's about all I want to say!

Akiane

Akiane is a 9 year old artist! Yeah 9 years old! Akiane started having visions about the spiritual realm, her family were athiests and she had no influence from them.
She began to have these vision experiences all the time, sometimes every day and began to describe details of life in heaven and the earths future.
About the time Akaine started to get these visions, she began to take an interest in art, mainly she would sit for hours drawing faces.
She converted her family to Christianity now.
Anyway you must read her biography, you have to see her art, it's beautiful, but the story behind it is very out of the ordinary, she speaks 4 languages!
She wants people to find hope in her paintings.
Once she was asked "why did you paint a portrait of Jesus?"
She said:
"It was God's timing; I had been looking for a Jesus model for two years, and I could not find the right face. Then one day I asked my family to pray with me all day. We petitioned God to send the model right through our front door. The next day a tall carpenter came in. He was so humble, and I was surprised that he agreed to model for me. But a week later he called back to say that he was unworthy to represent his master.
We all prayed together again, and a few days later he called back to tell us that God wanted him to do it, but he had to cut his hair and beard in three days. So we took a few pictures and I studied his face for a long time. After dozens of sketches, I started painting. It took me 40 hours to finish the first Jesus painting –The Prince of Peace-- and I still remember I lost four teeth in that time! "

I think you will be pretty amazed here is her site where you can find out all about this special and beautiful girl

Well excuse me!

A long time friend of mine from my former Church (the protestant Church, pre Catholic days) said to me "Oh you should have been at Church on sunday, pastor X spoke on (whatever it was) and it would have been great for you."
I thought to myself "Well excuse me but I DID go to Church, MY Church!" but she is a dear friend and I said "well I did go to my Church" in which she answered "well I know, I know I just mean....."
Why do people have to assume that being a Catholic is not being a Christian? I know people from my former Church that act like that around me, and are just waiting for me to be empty of the Holy Spirit and come crawling back with strongholds of demons all over me!
I love my friends from my old Church, and the Pastors etc, and have a huge respect for them, a lot of them have been wonderful friends to me and continue to be, but I'm not talking about them, I'm talking about a lot of people's perspectives on being a Catholic.
I bump into many of these people, who act like now they know God better than me.
Well HELLO! I don't worship Mary and the Saints, and i'm not going to go into that , it's such an issue with many. I am a Catholic woman, trying to do her best as a Christian, I love the Lord with everything im made of and try to be a good friend, sister, listener, helper etc to everyone I meet, I dont bow down to statues, worship idols, open up my spirit to the underworld or any of that people think Catholics do (nor do I worship the Pope)
So if anyone tells me that I should have been at Church on sunday, I'll tell them "you can always find me at St.Joseph"
The end, all vented out....ahhhhhhh

June!

Today would have been my dads birthday, if he were alive here on earth. Along with the sadness I feel an excitement of it comming up because I keep birthday candles for him each year and then when June 27th comes up I get them out and light them near his photo.
It's a neat way of remembering and a good time for reflection. It's also my sisters birthday so "Happy Birthday Fay!"
Yesterday would have marked 3 years since my grandmother (dads mother) died, so today is time for some difficult and also good reflection.
Saying "Happy birthday Dad!" on my blog makes me feel better too.

Ok so something unrelated to June and my family, is that I found a special and uplifting page, relating to sadness and such. I think it's so inspiring, just CLICK HERE AND YOU WONT BE SORRY!

I love this Psalm and want to blog it!

Psalm 91:14-16

The Lord says:
"I will rescue those who who love me,
I will protect those who trust in my name

When they call on me I will answer
I will be with them in trouble

I will rescue them and honor them
I will satisfy them with a long life
and give them my salvation"

Give me an "Awwwwww"

I was just lookin' around, and found this nice statue of Joseph with Jesus, I thought it was pretty cool and it just made me "awwwww" , since we have just had Fathers day (well in the USA) and have thought of our dads, God the father, and of course Joseph had such an important role as a father too, and as a good husband to Mary.
The Bible doesn't speak too much about Joseph, and I think his role in life was huge, how many of you men could possibly imagine bringing up Jesus and being the husband of Mary?
Here in this figurine, he looks so tender and loving, also like a strong and protective father, and I imagine God would have wanted all that in the man he would choose to hold the delicate baby Jesus, I believe he chose a fine man in Joseph.
You can buy this figurine HERE

also I thought this was funny:

A Talented Artist

As an art lover, I recently came across a very talented Artist by the name of Julian Beever. His art is just amazing.
He does all kinds of things, I particularly love his street art, where he uses a technique called "Anamorphic Illusions" he draws in a particular way, to make the picture seem 3 dimensional.
I have posted one of his pictures here and if you like it then you will definitely love his website where you can see more by going to his site Click here for the link

Susan Torres

My heart goes out to Susan Torres family and her unborn baby.
I have a real soft spot with cases like this they really hit home.
Here is what you should know about Susan Torres story:

On May 7th, 2005, the day before Mothers' Day, Susan M. (Rollins) Torres -- a 26-year-old vaccine researcher at NIH; mother of a two-year-old son, Peter; graduate of the University of Dallas; and parishioner at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Alexandria, Virginia collapsed. She was rushed to the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, where she has been diagnosed with stage four melanoma and is brain dead with no hope of recovery.

Susan was 17 weeks pregnant at the time and although the doctors have given her no hope of survival, they are fighting to keep her unborn child alive until at least July 11 where he or she will have a viable chance at life.

Her family is really starting to show signs of the strain this is causing; mentally, physically and financially. In an effort to escalate the awareness of their situation, and to help raise additional funds, friends of the Torres family have established The Susan M. Torres Fund to help defray the $1,500 a day ICU medical costs that insurance does not cover.

Please help this family by sending a donation. Any amount is appreciated and it is tax deductible. Donations can be sent to:

It talks about becomming a knight and serving others and helps children learn about Joan of Arc, St.George and many more.

It's subject to copyright so I won't share any chapters on my blog but will link you over if you just click HERE so you too can be blessed by it.
I pray that you enjoy it and that it imparts something into your family life.

Praying Couples and the Trinity

I know how valuable prayer is to a sole person, so it would make sense to pray with your partner, or spouse.
The statistics of married couples who pray together are pretty cool.
Some surveys say that whilst the divorce rate for Christians is not particularly less than those outside the Church, Christian couples who pray together have a divorce rate of less than 1%
I think that alone is pretty amazing.
Since I'm getting married some time in the future, you need not be surprised at me taking such and interest :)
I came across something really interesting in the bible, (Ecc. 4:12) "A cord of 3 strands is not easily broken".... so adding God into a marriage would certainly guide, strengthen and protect it.
I read about some benefits of praying together also which are:

1. We can pray together issues that we face, bringing them together to God, rather than trying to solve them on your own.
2. Praying together can build trust between two partners, allowing issues and joys to be shared openly.
3. Keep Christ at the centre of the marriage, allowing his protection, healing and forgiveness where necessary

I have also read something interesting in a book called "God at Work" by Phillip Cody, here he uses the Icon of the Trinity as an example, he writes:

The Greek word "Ikon" means a living image. I cons are a window into heaven, imaging and making present the living reality pictured. We need to contemplate and pray in the presence of an icon to get drawn into that image and life ourselves.
I have chosen the Icon of the trinity (Andrei Rublev, Fifteenth centrury) to illustrate some of the elements of love and community in God. Here is a picture of God, which can be a powerful model for Christian Marriage and Family Life.
The three angels sitting at the table are messengers of God, who foreshaddow God as a Trinity of three persons: The Father at the left, Jesus in the centre and the spirit on the right. The building behind, on the left symbolizes the Temple of God, the presence of God, the tree in the middle represents the Tree of Life, the Cross of Jesus, source of Life, the mountain on the right stands for God's revelation, work of the Holy Spirit.
In the Icon are three distinct persons who are very much a unity. They resemble each other and yet they are different. They are three and yet to take one of the figures out of the scene would destroy the whole rhythm of the Icon. The three are obviously communicating with a real sense of unity in diversity, and yet with a love that is totally open to others.
We very soon feel part of the group, at home with them (Jn 14:23).
The three are seated and yet there is obvious movement of communication, dialogue and relationship amongst them.
In your prayer I am sure you will discover much more.....

I found the whole Icon example rather interesting and very well written. This book is great and since I'm getting married God willingly soon, this book is just what I need, thanks to Fr. Frank for his second hand books!

Terri Schiavo's Autopsy, what this means

There has been a lot of talk about Terri Schiavo's autopsy, at first I was dying to find out what it could contain to get Michael Schiavo in trouble etc.
I havent actually seen the autopsy, but I came to thinking, whatever on earth it could contain about her death Terri died because she was starved and dehydrated.
That is her unfair cause of death and the way Terri was cheated out of a life, her family have been cheated and are left behind to pick up the pieces.
I will never forget how hard they were fighting for someone they loved with all their hearts, minds and souls.

Drink more water!

For years I have maintained the "drink more water" speech. Friends who talk about skin problems etc always hear the same thing from me, but you know what? I'm right ;)
I drink the recommended amount which is 2 litres per day, I have done this since I was 13 and never had skin break outs since, where as before I did have that embarrassing big pimple sticking out for the world to see now and then, eek!
We all know that our body is made up of 80% water so it 's quite the common sense.
The other good news for the weight conscious out there is that water can actually help you lose weight, here is how:
Your metabolism is the bio-mechanical process that breaks down food and turns it into energy, so it consumes calories.
If you are not drinking your 2 litres of water per day , your weight loss will slow right down this is because 2.5 litres of water is naturally lost through daily bodily functions such as going to the bathroom, and sweating.
If you do not replenish this water you will soon become dehydrated and your metabolism will be the first to shut down.
So if you are dieting, keep this in mind.
Since your metabolism is the best device you have for weight loss, you would certainly want it to be working at full speed, and water is the "fuel" that drives our metabolism's chemical reactions....SO.............if you are not drinking enough water, then you are not going to burn as many calories as you can, got it? So drink up!

St. Anthony of Padua....who is he?

Tommorow we come to the day of St. Anthony of Padua. It always interests me to find out who they are and why their name has been remembered, not only that but my late uncle was named Anthony, after St. Anthony of Padua, the photo I have used here is very simmilar to what my grandmother had.
So here is what I have discovered...

St. Anthony of Padua:

St. Anthony of Padua is one of the most famous disciples of St. Francis of Assisi.
He was a preacher and worker of miracles in his own day. He was such a good speaker that people would often say "even the fish love to listen".
Also, since his death, he has come through to many people, through intercessions.
He was born in Portugal and his father was a captain in the royal army.
At the young age of 15 he entered the Canons Regular of St. Augustine and devoted himself to study and practice of piety in the Monestry of Coimbra in Portugal.
About that time some of the first members of the Order of Friars Minor, which St. Francis has founded in 1206 A. D. came to Coimbra. They begged from the Canons Regular a small and very poor place, from which by their evangelical poverty and simplicity they edified everyone in the region. Then in 1219 A. D. some of these friars, moved by divine inspiration, went as missionaries to preach the Gospel of Christ to the inhabitants of Morocco. There they were brutally martyred for the Faith. Some Christian merchants succeeded in recovering their remains; and so brought their relics in triumph back to Coimbra.

The relics of St. Bernard and companions, the first martyrs of the Franciscan Order, seized St. Anthony with an intense desire to suffer martyrdom in a like manner. So moved by their heroic example he repeatedly begged and petitioned his superiors to be given leave to join the Franciscan Order. In the quiet little Franciscan convent at Coimbra he received a friendly reception, and in the same year his earnest wish to be sent to the missions in Africa was fulfilled.

St. Anthony's Arrival in Italy

But God had decreed otherwise. And so, St. Anthony scarcely set foot on African soil when he was seized with a grievous illness. Even after recovering from it, he was so weak that, resigning himself to the will of God, he boarded a boat back to Portugal. Unexpectedly a storm came upon them and drove the ship to the east where it found refuge on coast of Sicily. St. Anthony was greeted and given shelter by the Franciscans of that island, and thus came to be sent to Assisi, where the general chapter of the Order was held in May, 1221 A. D..

Since he still looked weak and sickly, and gave no evidence of his scholarship, no one paid any attention to the stranger until Father Gratian, the Provincial of friars living in the region of Romagna (Italy), had compassion on him and sent him to the quiet little convent near Forli (also in Italy). There St. Anthony remained nine months as chaplain to the hermits, occupied in the lowliest duties of the kitchen and convent, and to his heart's content he practiced interior as well as exterior mortification.

St. Anthony, Preacher and Teacher

But the hidden jewel was soon to appear in all its brilliance. For the occasion of a ceremony of ordination some of the hermits along with St. Anthony were sent to the town of Forli. Before the ceremony was to begin, however, it was announced that the priest who was to give the sermon had fallen sick. The local superior, to avert the embarrassment of the moment, quickly asked the friars in attendance to volunteer. Each excused himself, saying that he was not prepared, until finally, St. Anthony was asked to give it. When he too, excused himself in a most humble manner, his superior ordered him by virtue of the vow of obedience to give the sermon. St. Anthony began to speak in a very reserved manner; but soon holy animation seized him, and he spoke with such eloquence, learning and unction that everybody was fairly amazed.

When St. Francis was informed of the event, he gave St. Anthony the mission to preach throughout Italy. At the request of the brethren, St. Anthony was later commissioned also to teach theology, "but in such a manner," St. Francis distinctly wrote, " that the spirit of prayer be not extinguished either in yourself or in the other brethren." St. Anthony himself placed greater value in the salvation of souls than on learning. For that reason he never ceased to exercise his office as preacher despite his work of teaching.

The number of those who came to hear him was sometimes so great that no church was large enough to accommodate and so he had to preach in the open air. Frequently St. Anthony wrought veritable miracles of conversion. Deadly enemies were reconciled. Thieves and usurers made restitution. Calumniators and detractors recanted and apologized. He was so energetic in defending the truths of the Catholic Faith that many heretics returned to the Church. This occasioned the epitaph given him by Pope Gregory IX "the ark of the covenant."

In all his labors he never forgot the admonition of his spiritual father, St. Francis, that the spirit of prayer must not be extinguished. If he spent the day in teaching and heard the confession of sinners till late in the evening, then many hours of the night were spent in intimate union with God.

Once a man, at whose home St. Anthony was spending the night, came upon the saint and found him holding in his arms the Child Jesus, unspeakably beautiful and surrounded with heavenly light. For this reason St. Anthony is often depicted holding the Child Jesus.

St. Anthony's Death

In 1227 A. D., St. Anthony was elected Minister Provincial of the friars living in northern Italy. Thus he resumed the work of preaching. Due to his taxing labors and his austere penance, he soon felt his strength so spent that he prepared himself for death. After receiving the last sacraments he kept looking upward with a smile on his countenance. When he was asked what he saw there, he answered: "I see my Lord." He breathed forth his soul on June 13, 1231 A. D., being only thirty six year old. Soon the children in the streets of the city of Padua were crying: "The saint is dead, Anthony is dead."

Pope Gregory IX enrolled him among the saints in the very next year. At Padua, a magnificent basilica was built in his honor, his holy relics were entombed there in 1263 A. D. From the time of his death up to the present day, countless miracles have occurred through St. Anthony's intercession, so that he is known as the Wonder-Worker. In 1946 A. D. St. Anthony was declared a Doctor of the Church.

This brief life of St. Anthony of Padua appeared in the August/September edition of the Herald of the Immaculate , and forms part of the Home Page of St. Francis of Assisi.

The Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate are a Roman Catholic Religious Institute of solemn vows headquartered at Benevento, Italy.

Yesterday

There I was standing in a carpark in my town, waiting for my sister to come pick me up in her car(we went shopping!!) when I saw my Church's retired priest walking by.
Late last year he had a stroke and now is too old to come back to serve as a priest, even though he wanted to.
So out of surprise I yelled out "Hey Father!!" which of course got his attention, I can be loud ;).
He was so happy to see me, and that meant a lot.
Anyway, we talked a little and I got to see his excitement about my life and my faith as a new Catholic (revert).
So later I got to thinking, how we all joined in prayer for him and how speedy his recovery was for an old man, he is in his late 70's.
Only in around maybe October he collapsed at home and was taken to hospital, he couldn't talk, or walk, and now only a few months later, he almost looks back to normal, walking around the street and I could barely notice he still hadn't regained full use of his left arm. So again I think how amazing the power of prayer is, he just recovered so soon.
Also, just when he was looking for a place to live, an apartment came up for rent just near the Church presbytery, so he is never really alone and not far from the people he cares about. It's so nice how things work out sometimes.
He was very instrumental in my becoming a Catholic again and if I had not seen the love of God and the dedication to the faith in him, I would have been very disheartend.
I think at times we can take our priests and others who dedicate their lives to the faith for granted. They do such amazing works and what they do is not easy.

Russel Crowe

Russel Crowe, the papers are having a field day with him! One moment where he blew up and alledgedly hit someone (yes I know it's wrong) has turned into worldwide news, well of course he is a celebrity and it's to be expected.
Let's remember they are only human,
Here is what he had to say:

"I'm at the bottom of a well...I can't communicate how dark my life is right now, i'm in a lot of trouble, I'll do my best to solve the situation in an honourable way. I'm very sorry for my actions, I will spend the rest of my life, if it takes it, trying to make it up with my wife. I'm pleased that my son isnt able to compute what's going on at the moment because that would be a heart breaking thing."

St. Bonaventure

It was a divine decree that permitted one of the soldiers to open his sacred side with a lance. This was done so that the Church might be formed from the side of Christ as he slept the sleep of death on the cross, and so that the Scripture might be fulfilled: ‘They shall look on him whom they pierced’. The blood and water which poured out at that moment were the price of our salvation. Flowing from the secret abyss of our Lord’s heart as from a fountain, this stream gave the sacraments of the Church the power to confer the life of grace, while for those already living in Christ it became a spring of living water welling up to life everlasting.

Finding comfort

Anyone out there who has lost someone they love , knows what it's like to grieve.
Most people know that their loved ones are with God, or "somewhere" out there even.
No one can give you the promise and comfort like our God does. I don't know of other beliefs giving quite the same "peaceful" thoughts as what is written in the Holy Bible.
Here is a message that comforted me and brought peace to my soul, I hope that it brings peace to yours too:

1 Thessalonians 4:13 (translation "New Jerusalem Bible")

The dead and the living at the time of the Lord's coming

We want you to be quite certain, brothers, about those who have fallen asleep, to make sure that you do not grieve for them, as others who have no hope.
We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and that in the same way God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.
We can tell you this from the Lord's own teaching, that we who are still alive for the Lord's coming will not have any advantage over those who have fallen asleep.
At the signal given by the voice of the Archangel and the trumpet of God, the Lord himself will come down from heaven, those who have died in Christ will be the first to rise, and only to meet the Lord in the air.
This is the way we shall be with the Lord for ever.
With such thoughts as these, then, you should encourage one another.

As it says, "we should encourage one another" I hope to encourage you.

Image from HERE where you can also read a good pro life article.

note: After posting this I thought "hmmm this pic is a little out there" but I would like to get the "reality" of abortion in our thoughts, what we see is nothing, we don't see what's really happening on the inside of the woman's body, to that baby, we can dress it up in our minds all we like, because we can't see the baby.
I am not into "shock tactics" and wont show a real live abortion pic on here ever, but this is just something to make you think differently maybe and realize the actual reality behind "terminating a pregnancy" into "destroying a precious life"

The Secret of Love

I have heard 3 elderly couples who have managed to stay happily married and in love for all those years, get asked... "So what's the secret of staying in love?" All 3 of them said... "Don't let the sun go down before making up"
Forgiveness is a valuable gift.
Of course, I do know that this is not the only key, but a very important one.
This is a good lesson, i'm going to use it!

At the movies

Last night we went out to watch
The Longest Yard at the movies. It was so funny and had a great cast and some good music and sountrack.
I love comedy, and love laughing like a nut ;)
But this was a good one and I recomend it as a good watch. We all had a great time and also went out to dinner before hand, I still ate too much chocolate afterward but it's ok now and then (so I tell myself)
Next I want to see "Narnia" it looks so magical and I was a huge "The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe" fan, and still would be i'm sure. I don't really watch many movies but lately there seems to be some interesting ones out there, like Mother Teresa, which I can't watch because it's not coming out in my local cinema :-(
Oh well there is always DVD.

From the outside to the inside

I was reading a good article that I found very interesting by Dr.Marcellino D'Ambrossio PhD.
In this article he talks about outward signs of love, reflecting our inner feelings of love.
I particularly like this :

"There are external practices in religion and there will always have to be. We human beings have bodies as well as souls. And we must use those bodies to express what is in our souls. In fact, outward expression is designed to strengthen and spread what is inside. And if we fail to express it outwardly, what is inside withers and dies."

The article is called
"Religiosity VS. Holiness" I don't want to write anymore on what I think of this because I want you to read it, but to say that this has really been a great read.

The seed of God is in us. Given an intelligent and hard-working farmer, it will thrive and grow up to God, whose seed it is; and accordingly its fruits will be God-nature. Pear seeds grow into pear trees, nut seeds into nut trees, and God-seed into God. .......................Meister Eckhart

Nobody loves a woman because she is handsome or ugly, stupid or intelligent. We love because we love. ..................Honore de Balzac

Sharks are as tough as those football fans who take their shirts off during games in Chicago in January, only more intelligent. ...................Dave Barry
