Riots in Australia

This is something I never expected, (naive or not) and it's disgusting and very un-Australian. I'm talking about the Riots in Australia which I think are about racism.
They call themselves "Australians fighting back" and target Lebanese, Muslims and all Middle eastern.
I am Australian and I love Australia, but am really ashamed at these gangs, waving the Australian flag and then bashing people with dark skin. This is not and has never been what Australian means. Shocking.

I pray for peace.

I heard a bit about this on BBC this morning. It is sad. Is this the worst racially motivated violence Australia has had? I'm thinking of the civil rights movement here in the 60's and early 70's. Not an easy time as I remember.

Hey there 4HC!!, it's certainly the worst racially motivated violence that I have ever heard about.
If they really want to go back to the roots of history, they will see that this land originally belonged to the Aboriginals, so these riot guys and girls are just as foreign as the middle eastern folk. :)
It's dissapointing..

There is still so much to do in the world to advance peace and harmony. Even in the US there is still an uneasy tension as minority communities grow and will become the majority by the year 2025. The battle of the 60/70's is not over here, we still have much institutional racism. Not as many riots in the streets, but there is still underlying resentment as minority communities advance. Muticulturalism is great, but still a long way to go.

I didn't realize Australia was having issues like this. That is sad to hear. It's like being Muslim is the new black of the Jim Crowe era.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I hope that the police will be able to handle it in very quick order so that it doesn't get out of hand.

The Holy Spirit's message today on The Christian Prophet blog is that Muslims create a backlash against themselves by insisting on feeling separate and different.

Thanks David!!
Prophet, I do agree that some Muslims have created this backlash yes, I just don't like the violence and the racial issues attatched to the riots at the moment.
Thanks all. No worries Victoria, I found out on sprite's blog actually. :)

I read about that in the NY Times online edition. The problem seems to be quite global in some respects. France hasn't long recovered for its rioting, and we still have isolated outbreaks here in the States. Sad, really.
