"Take this and eat it, all of you"
I have for so many years seen the importance in Communion. I always feel such a closeness with Jesus, and always have, when taking it. Right now, I cannot take it because I have not been re received, but I look forward to this more than anything. In the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1384) it says: The Lord addresses an invitation to us, to receive him in the sacrament of the Eucharist: "Truly, I say unto you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you"
To me, this is a great invitation to life, to unity with Christ, and as Jesus said that unless we eat of his flesh and drink his blood, then we have no life in us. I want life in me, I want as much of the Son of man in me and with me as I can possibly get!!
I know spiritually he is with me and meets me in my heart, but desire the sacrament too.
So for anyone who awaits like I am, and who has to sit in the pew as communion is being served, here is a prayer for you:
An Act of spiritual Communion
My Jesus,
I believe that You are the Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I long for You in my soul.
Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
As though You have already come,
I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You;
never permit me to be separated from You.
